Discover and Certify an Asset

Overview

This guide walks you through discovering data assets in the Matia catalog and certifying one so your team can see its status at a glance. Upon completion, you will have browsed the asset tree, opened an asset’s details, and applied a certificate (e.g. Verified, Draft, or Deprecated).

1. Open the Catalog

In the left sidebar, click Catalog. The catalog homepage shows all assets connected to your environment. On the left, the asset tree lists your data warehouse, databases, sources and destinations (ETL and reverse ETL), BI integrations, and orchestration tools (e.g. dbt).

2. Browse and Open an Asset

  • Use the tree to drill down: e.g. warehouse → database → schema → table.
  • Click an asset to open its details in the content area on the right.

The details header shows the asset name and whether it is active or inactive. Use the Overview tab to see contents (e.g. databases under a warehouse, or tables under a schema), plus description, owners, tags, and whether lineage exists. The right sidebar shows freshness, row count, custom monitors, schema changes, description, owners, tags, and certificates.

3. Add a Certificate

Certificates communicate the state of an asset: Verified (reviewed and approved), Draft (in development or under review), or Deprecated (outdated or should not be used).

  1. On the asset details page, find the Certificates section in the right sidebar (or in the asset panel).
  2. Click the + or Assign certificate.
  3. Choose a certificate type: Verified, Draft, or Deprecated.
  4. Optionally add a message to explain context or instructions.
  5. Save. The certificate and message appear on the asset; you can see who assigned it and when it was last updated.

4. Add an Announcement (Optional)

From the asset details Actions menu (top right), you can Add announcement to broadcast a message (Information, Warning, or Issue) for this asset. You can optionally send it to a notification channel. Announcements persist on the asset page and help the team see urgent notices or key context.
